Top 7 Summer Events in Dallas, TX that You Can't Miss

Dallas is the United States' ninth-largest city and has plenty of entertainment to offer within its wide perimeters. Here, you can immerse yourself in culture in the museums or Arts District. Or, as a sports fan, catch a Cowboys, Mavericks, or Stars game as they play hosts to league oppositions from all over the country. You'd also want to check out the many eclectic neighborhoods surrounding the city or experience the thriving night scene. 

Regardless of your definition of fun, Planet Ford Dallas wants to help you make the best of the summer. On that note, we've created a list of the top seven summer events in Dallas that you can't miss.

Soul Flower Music Fest

Music lovers can look forward to the Soul Flower Music Fest at the beautiful Main Street Garden Park. Local and national artists perform in this one-day music festival featuring soul, R&B, hip-hop, and more. Bring your picnic blankets and enjoy a wonderful afternoon of music on the lawn. The event also has food and games vendors, shopping booths, and fun contests for attendees.

Date: June 19

Time: 3-10 p.m.

Price: $15 per person

Location: Main Street Garden Park, 1902 Main Street, Dallas

Toy Story – Live in Concert at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra

Toy Story – Live in Concert, conducted by Sarah Hicks, is a live-to-picture concert where the audience watches the film on the theater screen, accompanied by the live symphony orchestra performing Randy Newman's musical score. The entire family will love seeing the classic children's movie starring cowboy Woody and astronaut Buzz Lightyear set to live orchestral music. This impressive performance is a wonderful way to introduce children to the symphony.

Dallas Taco & Margarita Festival

Attend the fourth annual Dallas Taco & Margarita Festival this June and taste some of Dallas' best food and drinks. A ticket to this 21-and-older event includes five samples of tacos, margaritas, and foods from local vendors. Additional food and drink vouchers are available for purchase for $3 each.

After exploring all the vendors and sampling the food, relax in the beer garden and enjoy the music of live bands. Each ticket purchase is also an entry to win an all-inclusive trip to Mexico. The draw will be at 6:15 p.m., and the winner must be present to claim the grand prize.

Date: June 25

Time: Noon-6 p.m.

Independence Day Celebrations

Families have many great choices for Independence Day firework displays in the Dallas area. Visit the Lake Cities' Fourth of July celebration for an all-day event. The four cities of Lake Dallas, Corinth, Hickory Creek, and Shady Shores join together in a massive festival with a parade, food vendors, entertainment, and fireworks. Lake Dallas City Park in Lake Dallas is the venue for this fun-filled event.

Denton has annual Fourth of July family events, including a Liberty 5k race, a jubilee with games and activities, and a parade with a float contest. Fireworks begin after dusk. The festival is held at Quakertown Park in Denton.

Another free Independence Day festival is at the Panther Island Pavilion, in Fort Worth. Featuring live entertainment, food vendors, and a spectacular firework display, the Fort Worth Independence Day extravaganza will entertain the entire family.

Rockin' the River

Rockin' the River continues this summer with three days of live music entertainment along the riverbank at the Millennium Circle portal. Visitors can enjoy the performances from land or as they float along the river in tubes at Panther Island Pavilion.

The 2022 lineup includes Teddy Young & The Rugged Individuals, Beatles tribute band The Taxmen, Southside Five, and other local bands. With plenty of food and beverage vendors and fireworks after dark, the concert series will be a fun event for you and your loved ones.

Dates: July 15, 22, 29

Time: 1-9 p.m.

Location: Millennium Circle portal on River Street

Hot Trot

Hot Trot is a half-marathon, 10k, and 5k race that starts at Dallas' Norbuck Park. The three different courses run alongside White Rock Lake, providing a beautiful view during the race. All participants receive an event tank top and a finisher medal. Awards go to first through third place overall male and female runners and the top three runners in many different age groups. Race contestants can run or walk the course, and strollers and wheelchairs are welcome.

Entrants can celebrate their achievement during the event's after-party with food, exhibitors, and live entertainment. Event proceeds benefit the Assist the Officer Foundation.

Date: Aug. 20

Time: Start time 7 a.m.

Price: Registration fees are $39 per person for the 5k race, $59 per person for the 10k race, and $80 per person for the half marathon.

Riverfront Jazz Festival

The Riverfront Jazz Festival is a three-day musical event over Labor Day weekend. Musicians perform jazz, blues, R&B, soul, and more during this popular festival. The venue's Promising Young Artists stage highlights local students. With plenty of food and beverage vendors to choose from, you can enjoy the non-stop live music all weekend long.

The pre-show starts Friday evening with a performance by The Tribe Jeep Club, featuring a 65-vehicle procession of Jeeps, followed by a performance by The Dallas Hot Band. Saturday and Sunday feature three stages of live musicians, with performances starting at 1 p.m. 

Festival hotels, including Aloft Dallas Downtown, Sheraton Suites Dallas, Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Dallas, and Renaissance Dallas Hotel, feature after-party sets from 10:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. each night.

Time: Starts at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, and Sunday, Sept. 4

Price: Early bird tickets start at $59 for general admission open seating. Three-day weekend passes are available for $99 per person.
