While the current transition from gas-powered vehicles to electric ones is a net positive for the planet, it doesn't come without a cost. Some cars used to be wild and spectacular, providing you with a unique experience that included the smell of gasoline and the sound of a muscular V-8 roaring in your ears. While that era is all but gone, one muscle car continues to offer these thrills while adding modern infotainment and safety tech. The 2024 Ford Mustang is likely to be the last of a rare breed.
The 2024 Ford Mustang is part of the seventh Mustang generation, which started exactly 60 years earlier with the 1964 model. While the model has evolved over these past six decades, newer generations have captured the essence and magic that made the original Mustang such a huge hit. The seventh generation seems to be going down the same path. Also, since the Dodge Challenger will be discontinued after the 2023 edition and the Chevrolet Camaro will likely follow, the 2024 Ford Mustang will probably be the last true American muscle car available on the market.
The new sleeker look is the most visible difference compared to the 2023 version. Ford's design team has done an exceptional job in retaining the design elements that made the Mustang a household name while also making it look like a 2024 vehicle. Ford has redesigned all body panels except the roof and front pillars; everything else looks different but familiar. The interior also looks more modern, with larger screens and a better layout improving the overall experience. Several trim and powertrain changes are also expected, including adding a new top trim called Dark Horse.
The new 2024 Ford Mustang will come in multiple trims, allowing you to personalize it based on your needs and preferences. It's also longer and taller than the 2023 version, with a length of almost 190 inches and a height of 55 inches. The available configurations are:
The 2024 Ford Mustang's base model is anything but tame. It's powered by a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine that can generate up to 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, which should be more than enough for most drivers. All that power is transmitted down to the wheels with the help of a 10-speed automatic transmission. It also delivers on the interior infotainment technology front, as it features a 13.2-inch touch-screen interface and a customizable 13.2-inch liquid crystal display digital cluster.
The next configuration is a slight upgrade on the base model, providing subtle design and functionality improvements. The 13.2-inch touch-screen interface comes with standard SYNC 4 technology, and multiple drive modes are available to help you successfully navigate various road and weather conditions. A 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system provides crystal-clear audio quality, while a body-colored blade decklid spoiler upgrades the exterior.
The GT model features both a more powerful engine and a more aggressive exterior look. The engine is a 5-liter Ti-VCT V-8 that's capable of producing close to 500 horsepower and 418 lb-ft of torque. On the outside, the 18-inch Ebony black-painted aluminum wheels and glossy black-painted front grille make the 2024 Mustang GT look like the king of the road.
The Premium version of the GT trim allows you to configure your Mustang's looks even further. It comes with multiple appearance packages to choose from and subtle ambient lighting to make your driving experience even smoother. It also comes with larger 19-inch wheels.
These trims make their first appearance on the 2024 model and promise to give you a track-ready car that's also fit to drive on public roads. They feature everything the previous trims have to offer while adding several unique design elements, such as badges and hood stripes. The Premium version mostly focuses on visual upgrades. They include color-accented seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a special Dark Horse appearance package.
The 2024 Ford Mustang has multiple upgrades that provide comfort and infotainment. Ford's "fighter-jet inspired" design will make you feel like a pilot, while the configurable 12.4-inch instrument cluster will help you see all important details in a split second. You can even enhance your driving experience by matching the ambient lighting to the selected drive mode. Overall, the interior is everything you'd expect from a modern high-end vehicle.
This includes the infotainment system, which supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in every trim. There's also an optional smartphone charger, and every function can be voice-activated, allowing you to keep your eyes firmly on the road ahead.
While the 2024 Ford Mustang's design is partly an homage to older models, its safety technology is state-of-the-art. Each trim comes with Ford's Co-Pilot360, a bundle of active safety features designed to help you notice and avoid dangerous situations. Some of the most useful features include:
