2021 Guide to Ford SUVs

Alongside pickup trucks, SUVs continue to dominate the American motor vehicle market. The elevated driving position, off-road capabilities, tons of space, and improved safety profile of SUVs make it easy to understand why Americans choose them when looking to buy a new vehicle. With several SUV models in its lineup, Ford offers arguably the most impressive range of different SUVs for customers. This article provides a guide on some of the main 2021 Ford SUV models. 

2021 Ford Bronco Sport

First launched as far back as 1965, the Ford Bronco is making a much-anticipated comeback to American roads for the 2021 model year after a lengthy 25-year hiatus. The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport is a mid-size SUV with a maximum seating capacity for five people across its two rows. The seating capacity reduces to four people if you choose the two-door version over the four-door version. 

The base engine is a 2.3-liter with 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. If you want more power, you can opt for the 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with 310 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. The Ford Bronco comes with a SYNC 4 infotainment system, which you can access via a 12-inch capacitive touch screen. Cargo space is 23.6 cubic feet with the two-door model and 35.6 cubic feet with the four-door model.

2021 Ford EcoSport

The Ford EcoSport is a subcompact crossover SUV built on the Ford Fiesta platform. The 2021 EcoSport has seating for five people, with two in the front row and three in the second row. The EcoSport comes with a choice of two engines. The first is a 1.0-liter Ford EcoBoost engine with 123 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. The second engine choice is a 2.0-liter GDI engine with 166 horsepower and 149 pound-feet of torque. Both engines come paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. 

If you buy the 2021 Ford EcoSport, you get 20.9 cubic feet of space behind the second row. Using the split-folding rear seats, the cargo space can increase to 50 cubic feet. The EcoSport has a SYNC 3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. 2021 Ford Escape

The Ford Escape has been in production since 2000. The Escape is a compact crossover SUV with enough room to seat five people. Ford offers impressive variety in its powertrain options for the 2021 Escape. The first engine is a 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine with automatic stop-start technology, which helps lower fuel consumption during city driving. The 1.5-liter engine boasts 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. You can also opt for a larger 2.0-liter version of this base engine that boosts the power ratings to 250 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, there are both hybrid and plug-in Ford Escapes available. 

The 2021 Ford Escape has impressive cargo space of 37.5 cubic feet behind its second row. If you fold the second row down, this compact SUV converts into a cargo powerhouse that has 65.4 cubic feet of space. On all trims except the base trim, you get an 8-inch touch screen paired with Sync 3 infotainment.

The Explorer has been on American roads since the 1991 model year, when it made its debut as the first four-door SUV produced by Ford. With three rows, the Ford Explorer has a maximum seating capacity of seven people. The seating capacity reduces to six if you opt for second-row captain's chairs. 

There are three engines available for the 2021 Ford Explorer. The base engine is a 2.3-liter EcoBoost with power ratings of 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The second engine is a 3.0-liter V6 that improves the maximum power figures to 365 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. Lastly, you can choose a hybrid model that combines a 3.3-liter V6 with an electric motor for a total power output of 318 horsepower and 322 pound-feet of torque. 

The Explorer has 18.2 cubic feet of space behind its third row. If you'd prefer to use the Explorer to carry more stuff than people, you can fold down the third row and free up an impressive 47.9 cubic feet for your stuff. If you want to max out the cargo space and only use the front-row seats, you'll get 87.8 cubic feet of room. 

With its spacious interior and high maximum seating capacity, the 2021 Ford Explorer is a great option for medium- to large-sized families. Advanced safety features, powerful engine options, and an extensive array of high-end components even at the base trim level are some other compelling reasons to consider buying a Ford Explorer in 2021. 

2021 Ford Expedition

Last but not least, the Ford Expedition is a full-size three-row SUV with seating for up to eight people. The engine is a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter with 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. The engine comes paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Platinum trim beefs up the power from this engine considerably to 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. 

You get 20.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row. The infotainment system is SYNC 3 and comes with an 8-inch touch screen. Powerful engine options, a high-quality spacious interior, and impressive off-road capability make the Expedition an attractive choice for large families that want a reliable, safe, and responsive SUV.
