Although Dallas, Texas, is known for doing everything big, making plans for the perfect fall and winter events will ensure you get the most intimate experience possible and experience Dallas and the city's beauty firsthand. Read on to learn about our list of the best local events in Dallas, Texas, during the fall and winter months.

The State Fair of Texas

The State Fair of Texas is an event that proves everything is bigger in Texas! Big Tex, the icon of the Texas State Fair, is the world's tallest cowboy and stands waiting to greet festival visitors from around the world. This year, the Texas State Fair runs from September 24 through October 17 at the historic Fair Park in Dallas. The 2021 theme is "Howdy, Folks!" and is all about being together and celebrating the little things in life. The 24-day celebration offers an array of food, rides, games, attractions, and live entertainment.

The Chevrolet Main Stage hosts a wide selection of talented performers. For this free concert series, included with your state fair ticket purchase, you can expect to see headline acts such as country music singer Clay Walker, Texas natives Little Joe Y La Familia, and American comedian Bill Engvall.

The fair events planners have even included events for the smallest of visitors. There are daily family-friendly events to help educate, entertain, and excite children. They can learn about agriculture, and see returning favorites like the All-Star Dog Stunt Show. The Livestock Birthing Barn is an educational and highly informative program that exhibits the incubation and birthing process of various livestock animals. It highlights the purpose of responsible livestock breeding and its role in our daily lives.

The fair will also feature a collection of flavors from around Dallas. With delectable and mouth-watering menu choices like deep-fried chicken cordon bleu stuffed waffles, cotton candy burritos, and fried southern bourbon bread pudding, your taste buds will be dancing. Be ready to walk the festival grounds to work off those yummy calories!

An adult general admission ticket for one day is $15 to $20. Kids under 2 years get in free, while Premium Tickets and Season Passes range from $24 to $50. Discounts are available daily, so check the website for details.

The kids will get a kick out of the helicopters and fireworks displays. Tickets range in price from a $10 general admission to $250 VIP Pass. Buy a camping pass, helicopter ride ticket, or more in advance! You'll be so happy you did!

Ice Skate at Galleria Dallas

The Galleria Dallas is home to an ice skating rink, and there is no better time to glide out onto the ice than winter. Welcome the colder weather by heading indoors and taking part in a traditional winter experience. This top-tier rink takes ice skating to new levels with the nation's tallest indoor Christmas tree. If you have never braved the ice and stepped into skates, the Galleria offers skating lessons for beginners. An admission ticket, along with a 15-minute private lesson and skate rental, cost $29. For a quick introduction, Public Sessions are available for $12 with an additional $5 skate rental.

Instructors are usually available for private lessons on Saturday afternoons, and they request you set up a reservation in advance for the best experience. For more information or to check for available dates and times, please call 972-392-3361.

Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden's Pumpkin Village

Autumn at the Arboretum is Dallas' favorite fall festival for a reason! Visiting a pumpkin patch in the fall is a unique American tradition that is worth experiencing. The Arboretum's Pumpkin Village is framed by a colorful display of flowers and considered one of the top pumpkin patches in the United States. It features 20-foot-tall decorated pumpkin houses and imaginative displays formed by over 90,000 living pumpkins, gourds, and squash.

Making sure to emphasize the importance of family and togetherness, the festival hosts Mommy and Me Mondays, and Tiny Tot Tuesdays. Visitors can find their way through a hay bale maze, enjoy live music, or visit their 3.5-acre food, herb, and vegetable garden, aptly named A Tasteful Place.

Because the pumpkin patch itself is actually a carefully planned living art structure, visitors can't pick pumpkins from the patch but can purchase some on-site. Admission prices to the garden start at $17 with a separate fee for parking. The festival opens September 19 and runs through November 1. See the website for details.
