If you're looking for a fun-to-drive all-electric compact SUV, the two top choices are the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Tesla Model Y. Both these futuristic small SUVs have their strong points. To help you decide which of these electric vehicles (EVs) is best suited for your driving needs and lifestyle, our team at Planet Ford in Dallas, Texas, listed the key similarities and differences between the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Tesla Model Y.

What Are the Mustang Mach-E and the Tesla Model Y?

The Mustang Mach-E, first introduced in 2019, embodies the spirit of the Mustang pony but with an all-electric twist built into the auto body of a compact SUV. This four-door SUV has a sleek, sporty exterior design, innovative technology, and powerful performance.

The Tesla Model Y also debuted in 2019. This little four-door SUV has a neutral, compact exterior design with an elegant interior and is filled with Tesla's technology.

Mustang Mach-E Exterior Styling

The front end of this SUV has a long, bold nose with a prominent face proudly bearing the Mustang's prancing pony badging. The Mach-E has sleek, sculpted door and body panels, a sloped roof, and a raked sporty back end. One of the aspects that makes the Mach-E stand out is the hidden door handles that help to give it a futuristic appearance. You can get the Mustang Mach-E in four trims: the Select, Premium, California Route 1, and the sports-oriented GT.

Tesla Model Y Exterior Styling

The Tesla Model Y has a more traditional car look to it. It has more of a rounded silhouette with clean lines, a raked roof, and a squared-off back end. From the front, you'll notice a clean-nose design with sharp-looking cat-eye-shaped headlights. Tesla offers the Model Y as one trim called the Model Y and divides it into three variations: Performance, rear-wheel drive (RWD), and Long Range.

Mustang Mach-E Interior and Technology

You'll find two rows of seating in the Mach-E for up to five people. The cargo space in the back of this SUV ranges from 29.7 cubic feet to 59.7 cubic feet, depending on the seating arrangements. The drainable front trunk has 4.7 cubic feet of storage space.

Ford provides the Mustang Mach-E SYNC 4A's infotainment system with a 15.5-inch touch screen. This system has voice recognition, predictive destinations, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. The Premium and GT trims get a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium sound system.

The RWD and Performance models have two rows of seats that fit up to five people. The Performance version has an extra row of seats that can fit up to seven people. The interior of the Model Y is driver-centric, with front elevated seating positions and a low dashboard for clear visibility. In addition, the all-glass roof lets lots of light into the interior of the Model Y. All versions get up to 76 cubic feet of cargo space.

Tesla gives this compact SUV its infotainment system with a 15.0-inch touch screen with navigation, natural voice recognition, and wireless charging. However, this system lacks Apple CarPlay or Android Auto smartphone integration.

Mustang Mach-E Performance

The Mach-E has numerous battery and drivetrain options depending on the trim. With RWD and the standard range battery, the Select and Premium trims get up to 250 miles of driving range, and both can go from zero to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds. Move up to the California Route 1 trim, and with the extended battery and electric all-wheel drive (also called eAWD), it gets 312 miles of range and goes from zero to 60 mph in 4.89 seconds. The Long Range variation has a battery pack with an estimated 330-mile driving range, and it can go from zero to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds.

The top Performance version has a long-range battery with an estimated 303-mile driving range and can go from zero to 60 mph in an astonishing 3.5 seconds. Both the Long Range and Performance levels come with dual-motor all-wheel drive.
